“When I think about you, I touch myself…”
Hello, and welcome to Testicular Cancer Awareness Month!
We’re glad you’re here.
Now, come on in, get some coffee, take a seat, and let’s chat about how touching yourself can actually save your life.
Didn’t know this song was about your testicles, eh?
Annnnnnd if you didn’t know this was a song even though we even added quotes and everything, just Google it, listen to it, and enjoy. Apparently, some of our references are too old, and the 1990s are historical archives at this point...
In actuality, we don’t think this song was about the male genitalia, but it’s catchy and it’s a good reminder that we need to be aware of our bodies — specifically, the areas of our bodies that are more susceptible to cancer.
Anyway, April is Testicular Cancer Month, and this is a very important month for our team at MANSCAPED™. We have made it our life’s mission to bring good hygiene best practices and body confidence to the men of the world, but we also really try to spread awareness. Your balls are a very important part of your body, and we think about them all the time. This means you probably should, too.
In all seriousness, testicular cancer is no joke
At MANSCAPED™, we know we like to joke around a little, but we’re going to tone it down for a moment to actually go through some important things regarding your balls.
Testicular cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in men ages fifteen to thirty-five. When it is detected early though, testicular cancer actually has a 99% curable rate.
Checking your testicles for lumps or anything out of the ordinary takes a moment. Seriously, we’ve run the timer and just ONE minute of your time touching your nutsack can actually save your life.
Self-checks are not only easy, but you are the person who should know the most about your body. You know what your nuts usually feel like. You know if there is something off. You know if something hurts. Not to mention, men are notoriously bad at going to the doctor.
Men can add self-checks to their shower routines regularly, and it’s recommended to actually do a thorough check once a month.
Yes, of course we have a step-by-step. Sheesh, we’re not going to leave you hanging, especially since we’re talking about cancer. We’re here to help our fellow man.
Step-by-Step Check Yo’Self
The best way to check your balls for lumps or anything weird that might be the cause of concern is in the shower. This allows your balls to relax and hang a little bit so you have full access to every nook and cranny down there. It also allows you to utilize this amazing thing called soap so you can feel things really well.
Plus, you need to shower, so we’re not adding anything different to your routine.
Step 1: Go into the bathroom.
Step 2: Take off your clothes.
Step 3: Turn on the shower. Note: This needs to be a warm shower for the balls to loosen up, but it doesn’t have to be scalding hot.
Step 4: Enter the shower.
Step 5: Wash up and get some suds.
THE BIG ONE! Step 6: Draw your attention to your balls. With your fingers, gently roll your balls from side to side, up, and down and feel them. Are there any lumps or bumps? Anything hurt that is different?
Note: If you’ve never found this fun spot before, there is actually a soft rope-like structure on the back of your testicles. This is normal. Get on in there and check it out. Cool, huh? Once you get to know what that feels like, you can understand the difference in structure and feel of all the things around the ball area. There are things in your body that feel different normally, so the more you are familiar with those areas, the easier it will be for you to identify something that is wrong.
That’s it. You can enjoy the rest of your shower time.
Now, if you actually find something that is lumpy or bumpy or just not right, your next step is to make a doctor’s appointment pronto. When you’re making the appointment make sure to explain the situation and do not wait. Remember that early detection is better, and this is not something you should wait on. We will be the first ones to say we love WebMD, but in this case, go to an actual doctor.
Just as a reminder, we suggest giving yourself a ball check once a month. The more you can make this a routine, the better.
